Car Care Tips
- When jump starting a dead battery, the two vehicles should not be touching. Put one RED clamp onto the positive terminal of each battery, then connect one BLACK clamp to the negative terminal on the good battery, the other BLACK clamp to a metal part of the engine on the other vehicle. Once the car is started, remove the cables in the reverse order. This will reduce the chance of sparks and battery explosions.
- If your heater does not seem hot enough beside from being uncomfortable there could be a problem with your engine's cooling system. Improper engine cooling can cause overheating, poor performance, bad gas mileage and other potential costly problems. Having small problems checked and repaired can usually save time and money.
- If you keep your gas tank full in the cold weather it will reduce the amount of water and condensation build up. This reduces the chance of frozen gas lines, which can keep your vehicle from starting properly in the cold weather.
- Doing regular preventive maintenance such as oil changes, fluid changes, tire maintenance, 30,000 or 60,000 mile services etc., can greatly reduce the chances of time consuming and costly breakdowns or repairs and increase the usable life, reliability and value of your vehicle.
- Most of today's vehicles are four wheel alignable. Incorrect wheel alignment can cause a vehicle to pull, steering and suspension problems, premature tire wear and even cause poor gas mileage. Because of poor road conditions and for good preventative maintenance a vehicle should be aligned about once a year.
- Engine filters such as fuel filters, air filters and PCV valves, if not serviced regularly can cause poor performance, bad gas mileage and premature wear on your vehicle's fuel and emission systems. A little maintenance can save money, time and increase the value of your vehicle.
